Duplication of the existing single line between Aroona and Duaringa was identified in capacity modelling by QR Network Access as part of an optimum series of track duplications. This duplication of approximately 6.5 km of track, together with additional trains, will increase the Blackwater System capacity. 

This project was completed in September 2007 on schedule and within budget.
