The 17km rail line between Beerburrum and Landsborough is planned to be straightened and duplicated.    Plans include road realignments, as well as upgrades to the Glasshouse Mountains and Beerwah rail stations. The project will follow on from the track duplication between Caboolture and Beerburrum.

Background

Currently the section of railway between Caboolture and Landsborough is a single winding track. All trains have to slow down in certain sections, restricting the capacity of rail services to and from the north.

In December 2001, the Queensland Government commenced a study into the need to upgrade the line, with community consultation on the proposed options being finalised in late 2005.

This project is the second stage to improve the public transport needs of existing and future residents from Caboolture to the Sunshine Coast.   Additional lines are planned between Landsborough and Nambour and Beerwah and Maroochydore over the next 20 years.

A rail line to the Sunshine Coast is part of the Queensland Government's long-term plan to meet the future transport needs of the Sunshine Coast, with the population expected to increase from the current 275,000 to 424,000 by 2026.
