Background

To support population and employment opportunities around the centres of Ipswich, Springfield and Ripley, the South East Queensland Infrastructure Plan (SEQIP) focusses on constructing and upgrading existing and new roads and public transport facilities.  SEQIP recognises the strategic importance of the freight links in the Western Corridor.

Due to population growth in the western suburbs, the western rail line from Brisbane to Ipswich will be upgraded to increase the capacity of the corridor. The project is the first in a series of steps towards improving the public transport needs of existing and future residents in the western suburbs of Brisbane and out to Ipswich.

In a related project, a new passener line is also being constructed from Darra to Springfield to provide a viable public transport option for this growing centre.
