Goonyella System

The Goonyella System is located in Central Queensland and services the Bowen Basin, connecting mines west of Mackay to the world's largest coal export port, the Port of Hay Point. Coal is transported via rail to the two coal terminals at the port: the Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal (DBCT) and the Hay Point Services Coal Terminal (HPSCT).

Terminals receive coal from BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance, Anglo Coal, Macarthur Coal, Peabody Energy Australia, Xstrata and ANCI.

Both terminals are undergoing or planning expansion by 2010. DBCT intends to expand by 56 per cent and HPSCT by 59 per cent. Port statistics are available at The Ports Corporation of Queensland website. QR Network Access has examined rail infrastructure capacity enhancements to expand the existing system from 92 mtpa to 116 mtpa (by 2007) to 129 mtpa (by 2009) and potentially to 140 mtpa (after 2010).

Goonyella Coal Chain Project

The Goonyella Coal Chain project is designed to improve the performance of the supply chain operating in the Goonyella System. The goals are to achieve maximum coal throughput and service levels to meet customer demand.

QR Network Access and QRNational are taking part in the project along with representatives from 17 organisations, including the Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal and the Hay Point Services Coal Terminal.
